Microsoft Corp. officially entered the American mobile advertising business
yesterday, placing a number of mobile advertisements on its U.S. MSN Mobile
website for the first time.
Mobile internet usage remains dwarfed by computerbased surfing in the U.S.
market, but online media companies like Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo see
significant potential for mobile advertising in the years to come.
The first companies to take advantage of Microsoft’s new mobile ad space are
Bank of America, Paramount Pictures, and Jaguar. The software giant already
sells mobile phone advertisements in France, Spain, Belgium, Japan, and the UK,
and ultimately hopes to give its advertisers the opportunity to promote their
brands over a wide variety of webready platforms, including Personal Computers,
mobile phones, and Xbox Live online video game service.
