Dan Hesse, the newly appointed president and chief executive officer of Sprint
Nextel Corp., has resigned as a board member for Nokia.
Dan Hesse has a long and impressive career in the telecommunications industry
and this latest step is a great continuation on that path, Jorma Ollila,
Nokias chairman, said in a statement. Dan has made an important contribution
to the Nokia Board and we will miss his input to the board work.
Hesse previously served as the top executive of Embarq Corp.
Sprint, the nations thirdlargest wireless company, previously had fashioned an
agreement with Nokia for a WiMax initiative to create a new nationwide
highspeed wireless network.
Nokia, which specializes in wireless phones, other mobile devices and
communications networks, is to be a major supplier for Sprints WiMax project.
The company also has agreed to develop and market multimedia computers and
other electronic devices that are equipped for WiMax services.
At midday, Sprint shares were down 11 cents at $13.25 Embarq was up 20 cents at
$49.14.
