Telecommunications revenues in the South American country of Uruguay are
expected to total at least US$1.07 billion in 2012, according to a recent study
by Signals Telecom Consulting.
Signals expects Uruguay’s telecom sector to grow at a compound annual rate of 4%
between 2007 and 2012, as mobile phone carriers continue to experience success
competing with the country’s fixedline telephone monopoly, Antel.
Analysts said that the combined revenue of Uruguay’s mobile phone carriers
should exceed Antel’s fixedline revenues by the end of 2007. The country’s
mobile penetration rate currently stands at around 76.5%, and is likely to reach
100% by 2011.
