IF budding telecom company in Nigeria, Visafone, could be taken seriously,
within the next three years, at least 5000 jobless Nigerians may say good bye to
the labour market, as the company has promised a workforce made up of over 5000
Nigerians in about three years.
The company which said it was seriously gearing up for launch soonest noted that
the employment of such a large workforce was necessary because of the level of
business it has set out to do in the country.
Company officials confided in Mobile Week that by the time the company explored
all the business options which development designs had already been tested,
employment of such a number of Nigerians would only be for a start. This
according to them was because the company was ready to build the capacity that
could enable it redefine the Nigerian telecom market as a major target it has
set for itself.
For the company, telecom business should not just be about talk and communicate.
It should extend to building human capacity to reshape the economy.
According to the MD/CEO of the company Mr. Ninan Thomas "we are not just in the
business to help Nigerians talk and communicate. We are committed to building
both infrastructural and human capacity by providing employment for educated and
suitably qualified Nigerians. Besides, we will offer the best in terms of
Quality of Service: voice clarity, seamless connectivity, wide coverage, mobile,
3G high speed data (EVDO) and a host of fantastic value added services."
The company also said that having been incorporated in Nigeria on June 20, 2007
following its acquisition of Cellcom and received its Unified Access Service
licence as a telecom operator from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)
on August 1,2007 it is only wise that it contributes its own quota in defining
the telecom landscape this 2008.
The company less than two months after its registration was announced as the
approved bidder for the 800 MHz spectrum put on auction by the NCC.
Thomas noted that Visafones commitment to Nigeria was unalloyed, adding that
his company, was fully committed to the empowerment of Nigerians through job
creation and helping to launch Nigerians into the information super highway.
"Our overriding plan is to act as a spring board for Nigerias economic growth
and development. To achieve this, the company will assist
in fast tracking that growth and development through the provision of cutting
edge communications infrastructure as well as seamless and efficient services
that will ensure excellent customer service, unequaled clarity, the widest
coverage and seamless connectivity.
We have entered into long term strategic partnerships with telecommunications
equipment suppliers and engineers like Huawei technology and handset suppliers
like Nokia to enable us roll out without hitches," he added.
The company said it has also appointed Visafone Strategic partners who will
ensure adequate distribution and availability of the companys products and
handsets across Nigeria.
