U.S.based enterprise telecom giant, Verizon Business, has secured regulatory
licenses to provide long distance and international telecommunications services
in India, according to a recent statement by the company’s Singapore branch.
Verizon Business sees significant potential in India’s fixedline communications
market, despite a decline in traditional telephone use last year, and believes
that business services such as videoconferencing, which is already widely used
in Asia Pacific countries, will be major drivers of growth.
“You can sit in a room and have a highdefinition meeting and it is like the
person (who) is talking to you is in the same room,” commented Verizon’s
regional vice president for AsiaPacific, Andrew Dobbins.
