Mexican telecom incumbent, Telmex, has promised not to increase the cost of
its services this year, noting that increased efficiency and productivity
improvements had allowed its prices to drop in real terms over the past several
years.
Telmex said in a statement that its basic basket of telephony products – line
rental, local and long distance telephone service, and installation costs – had
not been indexed to inflation, causing real prices to drop 40.1% since 2001.
Telmex also noted that its 1Mbps Infinitum broadband service had been cut, in
real terms, by 74% in recent years.
