UK telecom regulator, Ofcom, has awarded radio spectrum licenses to ten
companies, following a recent airwaves auction.
The highfrequency (10GHz to 40GHz) airwaves licenses will allow the owners to
operate wireless broadband networks, and are quite flexible in their potential
use, the telecom watchdog said.
“The spectrum has been released on a technology and service neutral basis,
allowing these users the flexibility to decide what technology to use, what
services to offer and to change their use of the spectrum over time,” said one
Ofcom spokesperson.
The companies that were awarded licenses include telecom incumbent, BT, and
wireless service providers, Orange and TMobile, as well as others including
Arqiva, Digiweb, Faultbasic, MLL, RedM, Ransfinite, and UK Broadband.
