The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled
Card Activation Technologies’ patent is valid. Card Activation’s patent covers a
method for the activation and processing of transactions related to debitstyle
cards. The court’s ruling was in response to a motion filed by Barnes & Noble
Inc. and Aeropostale Inc. to declare the patent invalid. MedCom USA Inc., a
provider of HIPAA compliant healthcare and financial transaction solutions, made
the announcement. They own approximately 40 percent of the issued shares of Card
Activation Technologies.
