Research In Motion Ltd. announced a new version of its BlackBerry on Monday,
including new features to make it more competitive with Apple Inc.s iPhone.
The BlackBerry Bold runs on high-speed 3G wireless networks and has increased
processing power to run more sophisticated business software as well as more
easily download music, browse the Internet and watch videos. Apple is expected
to release a 3G iPhone next summer.
Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM (NASDAQ: RIMM) has also added an iPhone-like silver
rim to its device and made it easier to sync with Cupertino-based Apples
(NASDAQ: AAPL) iTunes software.
RIMs Bold is set to be available overseas this summer. It will be available in
the U.S. later this year, where AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) has exclusive rights to the
device.
