The FCC is proposing $12 million in fines for telecommunication carriers after hundreds failed to file or incorrectly filed documents that certify that they are instituting protection of customer data. The FCC sent notices to more than 600 carriers that didnt file the documents, proposing a fine of $20,000 for each. A fine of $10,000 was proposed for carriers that filed noncompliant documentation.
The FCC sent that notices as a result of strengthened privacy rules made in 2007 to protect consumer data against unauthorized access and disclosure. Carriers can dispute the fines and will have a chance to appeal for
