South Korean handset giant, Samsung Electronics, has announced plans to launch a Google Android-based smartphone in the European market in June.
The Samsung I7500 will feature a touchscreen display and 5-megapixel digital camera, as well as built-in Wi-Fi and HSDPA mobile broadband access. It’s Android operating system will integrate features such as Google Maps and Gmail, as well as a digital software marketplace similar to Apple’s ‘App Store.’
Samsung is the second company to unveil an Android-based product, following Taiwan’s HTC Corp., manufacturer of the T-Mobile G1 device (currently available in the U.S.). Samsung and HTC will compete head-to-head in Europe once HTC’s next-generation Android phone becomes available on the continent.
