Deutsche Telekom’s German cell phone business, TMobile Deutschland, has
changed its marketing policy for the Apple iPhone after Vodafone, a leading
competitor, obtained a
court order preventing TMobile from locking the popular device to its
network.
The injunction prevents TMobile from forcing iPhone buyers to sign a
twoyear contract, and requires that the iPhone be allowed to function on other
carriers’ networks.
TMobile said in a statement yesterday that iPhone sales will continue,
subject to the court’s restrictions, until it can challenge the injunction at a
hearing in Hamburg in two weeks. The carrier is reserving the right to claim
damages from Vodafone if and when the injunction is struck down.
