A consortium of companies led by France Telecom has been selected to acquire
a majority stake in Kenya’s incumbent telephone operator, Telkom Kenya, for
US$390 million (€270 million).
Telkom Kenya currently serves approximately 280,000 fixedline telephone
customers, and owns most of the infrastructure that is utilized by Kenya’s
various Internet Service Providers.
The acquisition of Telkom Kenya, which should be finalized by the end of this
year, fits with France Telecom’s strategy to develop its presence in
fastgrowing developing markets.
