Google officials will have plenty to contemplate next week as the tryptophan
from the Thanksgiving turkey kicks in. The company must declare by Dec. 3
whether or not it intends to bid on 700 Mhz spectrum at the Federal
Communications Commissions scheduled January auction.
If Google does bid and wins spectrum, a major industry shift could occur in
2008, and it wont be a competitive shift (that could come later). The more
immediate shift will partly involve the massive rush of equipment vendors and
other technology companies toward Googles front door. The other part of the
shift will be the piles of resumes Google will receive from experienced telecom
industry exeutives and professionals.
