Following on the footsteps of its successful cooperation in the delivery of
international data services, China Telecom (News Alert) has named Verizon
Business its Most Valuable Partner 2007. The Most Valuable Partner award is
given to the company which was instrumental in benefiting the customers of the
both the companies in the past 12 months.
In September, Verizon (News Alert) Business provided seamless connectivity to
China Telecoms Next Convergence Network (CN2) to its customers. CN2 is a
nextgeneration IP platform covering more than 200 cities and 600 routers within
China. In the fastgrowing Chinese market, the benefits of Verizon Business
(News Alert) expansive IP backbone network and portfolio of global IP and
mobile devices, services and solutions are enhanced with access to CN2. So, the
recognition by China Telecom now reflects the culmination of a longstanding
partnership between the two companies. It also reflects the strategic importance
China Telecom attaches to its partner Verizon Business.
Verizon Business and China Telecom are also founding partners and landing
parties in a consortium building the first nextgeneration undersea optical
cable system directly linking the U.S. mainland and China. The TransPacific
Express (TPE) system will cater to the dramatic increase in demand for IP by
using the latest optical technology to provide greater capacity and higher
speeds. The cable system is planned for completion in the 3Q of 2008, subject to
final U.S. regulatory approval. Other parties of the consortium include China
Netcom, China Unicom, Korea Telecom and Chunghwa Telecom (News Alert)
(Taiwan).
Ihab Tarazi, vice president, global network planning, Verizon Business, said in
a company press release, “This award acknowledges the successful benefits this
partnership brings to our mutual customers. This is another demonstration of our
commitment with China Telecom to support multinational companies expanding
business needs.”
Over the years, Verizon has spread its wings in China and the company now has
offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Verizon provides a fullservice
portfolio, from leasedline to MPLS/VPN services, to Chinesebased operations of
its multinational customers while it works with leading Chinese service
providers.
